The Phoenix Suns didn’t get much production out of their rookies in 2012-13

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Rookie Reports by joelapinski on Monday 29 April 2013 at 11:20 am

The Suns didn’t get much production out of their rookies in 2012-13.  21-year old point guard Kendall Marshall played in 48 games (3 starts) for the Suns last year and he averaged 14.6 minutes, 3.0 points, 0.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.  Marshall only shot 37.1% from the floor, 31.5% from three point range and 57.1% from the free throw line so far this year, which isn’t near good enough.  Marshall scored at least 10 points in a game three times and he also dished out 5 or more assists 6 times in the 2012-13 season.  24-year old point guard Diante Garrett played in 19 games (0 starts) for the Suns last year and he averaged 7.8 minutes, 2.1 points, 0.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.  Garrett only shot 32.7% from the floor for the Suns last year.  26-year old center Luke Zeller didn’t last too long before he was cut loose.  Zeller played in 16 games (0 starts) for the Suns last year and he averaged 3.6 minutes, 1.2 points, 0.6 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game and he only shot 34.6% from the floor which led to his release.

The Phoenix Suns have released Luke Zeller

Blogged under Bloglockers, Comings & Goings, Front Page, General, Rookie Reports by joelapinski on Thursday 21 February 2013 at 9:48 am

The Phoenix Suns have released 25-year old rookie center Luke Zeller.  Zeller played in 16 games (0 starts) for the Suns this year and he averaged 3.6 minutes, 1.2 points, 0.6 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game.  Zeller only shot 34.6% from the floor for the Suns this year and that is pretty awful for a big man.  Zeller might hook on with another team later this year, but the Suns won’t miss him at all….and that is really saying something about his skill set.

The Phoenix Suns have gotten next to nothing out of their rookies so far this year

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Sunday 27 January 2013 at 10:59 pm

Despite being awful so far this year, the Suns have not increased P.T. for their rookies. 21-year old point guard Kendall Marshall was the Suns’ first round pick last June. He has played in 11 games (0 starts) for the Suns so far this year and he is averaging 4.7 minutes, 0.8 points, 0.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. 25-year old center Luke Zeller was an undrafted free agent. He has played in 12 games (0 starts) for the Suns so far this year and he is averaging 3.2 minutes, 1.3 points and 0.5 rebounds per game so far this year. 23-year old point guard Diante Garrett was also undrafted. He has played in 6 games (0 starts) for the Suns so far this year and he is averaging 5.0 minutes, 0.8 points, 0.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. I don’t see any of these guys seeing a bump in P.T. any time soon.

The Phoenix Suns don’t have much P.T. available for their rookies in 2012-13

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Friday 28 December 2012 at 8:24 pm

The Suns have high hopes for this season, so they don’t have much P.T. available for their rookies, as of right now. 21-year old point guard Kendall Marshall has only played in 7 games (0 starts) for the Suns so far this year and he is averaging 5.4 minutes, 1.0 point, 0.1 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. 25-year old center Luke Zeller’s brother is a rookie for the Cleveland Cavaliers. He has played in 9 games (0 starts) for the Suns so far this year and he is averaging 3.8 minutes, 1.4 points and 0.7 rebounds per game. 24-year old guard Diante Garrett has only played in 6 games (0 starts) for the Suns so far this year and he is averaging 5.0 minutes, 0.8 points, 0.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.

The Phoenix Suns are getting next to nothing from their rookies so far in 2012-13

The Suns aren’t playing their rookies much so far this year. 21-year old Kendall Marshall was the Suns’ first round pick last June and he just isn’t getting any P.T. yet as he is buried on the bench. Marshall has played in 4 games (0 starts) for the Suns so far this year and he is averaging 3.8 minutes, 0.0 points and 1.3 assists per game. I don’t see Marshall’s P.T. increasing any time soon. 25-year old C Luke Zeller has played in 4 games (0 starts) so far this year and he is averaging 3.8 minutes, 2.3 points and 0.5 rebounds per game. He is also buried on the depth chart. 24-year old guard Diante Garrett has played in 1 game for the Suns so far this year and played 5 minutes, scored 2 points, had 2 assists and stole the ball one time. The Suns have aspirations of getting back to the playoffs in 2012-13, so I don’t see the rookies playing much this year unless things go completely in the tank.

The Phoenix Suns saw a lot to like in Markieff Morris in 2011-12

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Monday 7 May 2012 at 9:53 am

The Suns played a lot of players last season, so 22-year old rookie forward Markieff Morris’ P.T was up and down in 2011-12. Morris played in 63 games (7 starts) for the Suns last year and he averaged 19.5 minutes, 7.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. Morris has a nice upside and I can see him starting to get more P.T. as early as next season.

Markieff Morris has been up and down so far this year for the Phoenix Suns

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Tuesday 6 March 2012 at 7:24 pm

22-year old rookie forward Markieff Morris has been up and down so far this year for the Suns. Morris has played in 37 games (5 starts) for the Suns so far this year and he is averaging 20.2 minutes, 7.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. Morris is only shooting 37.5% from the floor so far this year, but he has been slightly better from three point range hitting 38.6% of his shots. Morris is going to have to be a little more consistent with his shot before the Suns trust him with an increase in playing time.

The Phoenix Suns need more out of Markieff Morris

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Saturday 11 February 2012 at 8:20 pm

22-year old forward Markieff Morris has pushed Channing Frye for P.T. at time this year, but he has been too inconsistent to get into the starting lineup for good. He is only shooting 39.4% from the floor so far this year and that is unacceptable for a big guy like Morris. Morris has played in 26 games (5 starts) for the Suns so far this year and he is averaging 20.1 minutes, 7.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. If the Suns can get Morris to take better shots, he will be an asset for them in the very near future.

Markieff Morris is off to a good start this year for the Phoenix Suns

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Thursday 12 January 2012 at 2:56 pm

22-year old forward Markieff Morris is off to a good start as a rookie for the Suns so far this year. He has played in 9 games (0 starts) for the Suns so far this year and he is averaging 21.6 minutes, 8.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. Morris is also shooting 12 of 22 (54.5%) from three point range so far this year, which is very, very impressive for a player his size. Morris will likely see his P.T. spike if he continues to play like he is right now.

The Phoenix Suns didn’t trust the rookies too much in 2010-11

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Friday 15 April 2011 at 9:27 am

The Phoenix Suns didn’t give the rookies much of a chance to show what they could do in 2010-11. 26-year old point guard Zabian Dowdell played in 24 games (0 starts) for the Suns last year and he averaged 12.2 minutes, 5.0 points, 0.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. He looks like a keeper. 22-year old power forward Gani Lawal only played in 1 game (0 starts) for the Suns last year and he played 2 scoreless minutes while committing one foul. He missed pretty much the whole season due to a knee injury. 24-year old center Garret Siler didn’t get on the floor much. He played in 21 games (0 starts) for the Suns last year and he averaged 4.8 minutes, 2.1 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.1 assists per game. Siler did shoot 54.8% from the floor, so he did help out in his limited time on the court.
