Lindsay Hunter might be shown the door by the Phoenix Suns in the near future

42-year old head coach Lindsay Hunter took over when the Suns fired Alvin Gentry.  The Suns were a pathetic 13-28 when Hunter took over.  He led them to a 12-29 (29.3%) finish in 2012-13.  Normally I would say that it’s unfair to fire an interim coach after he finishes out a season, but the Suns looked lost under Hunter.  They might try to hire a tough, old school coach to take over for Hunter before the 2013-14 season starts.

The Phoenix Suns fire Alvin Gentry

The Suns have fired head coach Alvin Gentry. The Suns were only 13-28 (31.7%) under Gentry in 2012-13 at the time of his firing. Gentry was 158-144 (52.3%) during the regular season in his five years in charge. He was also 10-6 (62.5%) in the playoffs for the Suns. The Suns have hired 42-year old Lindsey Hunter to replace Gentry as the new head coach. He has a lot of playing experience in the NBA, but not much coaching experience.

Alvin Gentry isn’t getting enough out of the Phoenix Suns so far in 2012-13

58-year old head coach Alvin Gentry just isn’t getting the job done so far this year for the Suns. The Suns are now 11-18 (37.9%) on the season, which has them in 4th place in the Pacific Division, 12 games behind the Clippers. The Suns are now 156-134 (53.8%) in the regular season in Gentry’s first five years on the job. Gentry needs to get the Suns back on the right path soon if he wants to keep his job for a while longer.

Alvin Gentry has done a solid job so far for the Phoenix Suns

57-year old head coach Alvin Gentry always seems to get the best out of the talent on hand. He was 33-33 (50%) for the Suns last year. The Suns are now 145-116 (55.6%) in his first four years with the Suns during the regular season. He is also 10-6 (62.5%) during the playoffs as the head coach of the Suns. Gentry is now 322-342 (48.5%) in his first 11 years as an NBA head coach during the regular season and he is 12-9 (57.1%) during the playoffs. I think the Suns are going to be a surprise team this year as I think Gentry is going to get a lot out of his roster in 2012-13.

Alvin Gentry did another solid job for the Phoenix Suns in 2011-12

The Suns didn’t look like a playoff team before the 2011-12 season, at least in my eyes. Head Coach Alvin Gentry coached up the Suns and almost got them into the playoffs. He led the Suns to a 33-33 (50%) record last year. Gentry is now 145-116 (55.6%) during the regular season in his four years as the Suns’ head coach. He is also 10-6 (62.5%) in the playoffs for the Suns. Gentry has been an NBA head coach for 11 years now and he has compiled a 322-342 (48.5%) record during the regular season and he is 12-9 (57.1%) in the post-season. Gentry is the right coach, at the right time to lead the Suns into the future.
